2017 CITY COUNCIL ELECTION RESULTS
Jimmy Dickens came in 2nd out of 3 candidates when running for this post. He will be off the Council in Jan. 2018.
3 open seats and 3 new councilmen in Kennesaw
Ross Williams MDJ Nov 8, 2017
KENNESAW — POST 3
Pat Ferris will return to Kennesaw’s City Council after being voted out in 2001. He knocked out two challengers for the win: small business owner Antonio Jones and brewer Jeffrey Oparnica.
Ferris received 671 votes, good for 56.6 percent, to Jones’ 386 votes, or 32.6 percent, and Oparnica’s 129, or 10.9 percent, according to unofficial results.
Speaking earlier in the day, Ferris thanked his campaign volunteers and said early planning played a big role.
“I’ve had just an absolutely wonderful campaign committee that’s helped a lot, and we got started early,” he said. “Those are the two big things and then being a previous council member of course gave a me a little bit of name recognition, so that helps a lot too.”
KENNESAW — POST 4
Chris Henderson, a senior research engineer at Georgia Tech, is set to join Kennesaw’s City Council.
Henderson defeated incumbent Jimmy Dickens as well as Councilman James Sebastian, who stepped out of the race for his Post 5 seat to challenge Dickens in an attempt to show the flaws in Kennesaw’s election system, which elects all candidates citywide as opposed to electing them to represent wards or districts.
The gambit did not pay off for Sebastian: Henderson won with 634 votes, or 51.8 percent, to Dickens’ 347 votes, or 28.4 percent, and Sebastian’s 242 votes, or 19.8 percent, according to unofficial numbers.
Speaking as polls were getting ready to close, Henderson said his campaign’s greatest strength was getting out and meeting the people.
“Here in Kennesaw, it’s all about shaking hands and representing the individuals,” he said. “I’ve knocked on over 800 doors.”
KENNESAW — POST 5
David Blinkhorn, a materials management professional for Kennesaw State University, will become the new City Councilman representing Post 5 in Kennesaw.
Blinkhorn defeated his write-in challenger Bobby Copeland with an unofficial tally of 936 votes to 152 write-ins, or 86 percent to 13 percent. The number of write-in votes that were specifically for Copeland won’t be known until the results are certified, but Blinkhorn won the seat by receiving a majority of the votes.
Speaking as polls were closing, Blinkhorn said his campaign’s biggest strength was “getting out and meeting the people and letting them find out who I was, as well as being a good listener. People want to have their representatives listen to what they have concerns about. My biggest strength is being a good listener in the process.”

KENNESAW: MORE SOUR GRAPES
See I told you it would be an interesting 4 years. You might recall that Kennesaw had a City Council member who lasted 18 or so months before she decided that she would rather be mayor than a simple council member.
She quit and ran for mayor. Old K hands already knew that being mayor was what she really wanted.
Since she got elected to council with a large lead over a candidate ‘appointed’ by mayor Mathews to serve out six months of a dead council members position she was pretty confident that getting elected to be mayor would be more of a coronation than an election.
She ran against Charles Derek Easterling, someone that was pretty much unknown. I looked into his background, found multiple marriages and a smalish bankruptcy. Pretty standard fare for K politicians.
So she loses by a wide margin. As I pointed out in a comment on Watch, where our losing candidate is now the ‘editor’, Mr Easterling did not get the job because he was a well known and beloved candidate, he got the job because K voters just did NOT like Debbie Williams. I of course am banned from posting on the Kennesaw Watch these days.
(8/18/17 Update: The 'old Kennesaw Watch was operated by June Wick and an associate, it wound down and was 'taken over' briefly by Debbie Williams after her election loss. Mrs Wick was not happy with how it was run, took it back and it was left to die. I sorta hijacked the name using Kennesaw Watch 30152 and now have it as a blog site at: http://kennesawwatch.blogspot.com/ along with a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheKennesawWatch30152/. I have no connection with either Mrs Wick, Mrs Williams, the old KW or the City of K, in fact I am probably on the shit list of all of them)

Since her drubbing in the K election she has displayed continued bad sportsmanship, continually whines and moans about those in office now and had threatened to post a lot of bad stuff about Easterling, Eaton and Yvette Daniel.
Now after a few weeks silence she has put up some commentary and 17 photos of documents, mostly from the bankruptcy, and marriages. The only ‘new’ info is a bit about Officer Easterlings 4 write ups while at the SO. 2 dismissed, 1 repremand and one with 3 days off with no pay. Nothing there to get excited about. Had she come up with it before the election he might have lost 5-6 votes. Probably Debbie was just lazy, well, you snooze, you lose.
So back to the central theme here.
Debbie is still pissed off and we can look forward to another 3 3/4 years of sniping at Easterling, Eaton, Yvette Daniels and perhaps Jimmy Dickens. The mayor and the latter 3 are considered to be the Welsh puppets (OK, I’m not positive about Dickens, we will have to wait and see).
Welsh thinks she got all them into office and they now owe her. Clearly that is correct for her dad and Yvette, perhaps the other 2 will tell her to take a hike.
And in closing, let me remind you that Yvette Daniel is ten miles of real bad road, has a very unsavory background of bad debt and duplicity. I dropped the mayor and other council members a note suggesting they NOT issue her a credit card!
Debbie can pick up loads of info on Yvette just by reading my blog on her at: http://catcherfreeman.blogspot.com/

Federal Bankruptcy Court
The below information is to old to be very relevant, but it is provided here simply FYI.
You might keep in mind that elected Kennesaw officials often have bankruptcy filings. For instance Mark Mathews went bankrupt while mayor and wrote off $1,100,000, stiffing 44 creditors.
The Dickens bankruptcy was filed April 7, 1995, the appointed Trustee said "Trustee's Report, Request That Confirmation Be Denied And Motion To Dismiss" and it was dismissed nov 30, 1995. Further info can not be pulled up online from a 22 year old filing.

For Federal Court records such as Civil, Criminal, Appeal and Bankruptcy you will find the PACER site useful.
Go to: https://www.pacer.gov/
This site requires registration with a credit card in order to get a login and pin number. The good news is that you can get 150 free pages each quarter and your card won't be charged. Over that amount you do get charged at ten cents a page with notification of the charge via email.
Here is a general caution on ALL such records checks.
You should have as much info going into it as possible. A full name to include a middle initial/or full middle name, last 4 of the social security number, age (DOB is better).
Here is further caution along these lines, not everyone uses their actual legal name, sometimes people use their middle names or a diminutive of their name (ie: Bob instead of Robert).
As an example the current mayor of Kennesaw: If you look up Derek Easterling you will find only one 'Civil Result' in this PACER system. It is for Easterling, Derek J, a NY civil filing from 4-11-02. This is NOT the Kennesaw mayor, so the info is useless.
However the Kennesaw mayor uses his middle name these days. If you look up Easterling, Charles Derek you come up with the actual bankruptcy, a Chapter 7 filed 1-31-08 in the Northern District of Georgia.
Here are 2 Cobb County sites you can use to obtain information locally:
Cobb County Superior Court, both criminal and civil cases:
https://ctsearch.cobbsuperiorcourtclerk.com/
Cobb County Magistrate Court, criminal, civil and judgments for both businesses and individuals:
https://courtconnect.cobbcounty.org:4443/ccmag/ck_public_qry_main.cp_main_idx
If you can find prior residences for the person of interest, you can look at the various courts for those areas.
Also generally available are sites that have inmate information.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons look up site is: https://www.bop.gov/inmateloc/
and the Georgia Department of Corrections site is:
http://www.dcor.state.ga.us/
On the above Georgia site you can find out where our former mayor, Leonard Church, is currently residing for his 20 year sentences. (CHURCH, LEONARD LEROY, GDC ID: 1001688600)
Or just look at: http://leonardchurch.blogspot.com/
Caution: Be careful in attributing the info you find to a particular person, get it wrong and you can be sued.
